What do we do?

The Durning’s premises are relatively small and most of our activities therefore happen outside the library’s opening hours.

Our main activity is monthly talks by local residents and members of local businesses and other organisations, or on local topics. These take place on the third Monday of each month except August, starting at 7.15 pm, with refreshments (for which there is a small charge – currently £2) available from 6.45 pm. The talks are open to the public and regularly attract audiences of fifty or more. Details are announced in our quarterly Newsletter.

We also support other activities in the library. We use the money raised from subscriptions and our events to pay for enhancements to the library such as signage and furniture.

With other Friends groups in Lambeth, we are members of the umbrella body, the Friends of Lambeth Libraries, which meets three or four times a year to discuss specific issues and matters of common interest. We also work with Lambeth officials on matters connected with the Durning and other libraries.
