People support from 1879 to Covid-19 – the work of Together for Mental Wellbeing, the UK’s oldest mental health charity
Together for Mental Wellbeing ( https://www.together-uk.org/ ) was founded by the Reverend Henry Hawkins over 140 years ago. A chaplain in asylums, he was far ahead of his time, tackling stigma and working tirelessly for patients’ emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. In 2018 this now national charity moved to its new head office in Walnut Tree Walk, Lambeth, a step away from the former site of the Bethlem Royal Hospital which is now the Imperial War Museum. By 2020 Together was offering support to over 4000 people a month.
Mental health and wellbeing have never been more talked about than now.
Linda Bryant, Chief Executive, will share Together’s work and also how it has supported people during the pandemic – the ways it has had to adapt its services, and examples of a workforce that has gone above and beyond to keep some of the most vulnerable people in society safe and well during these last few months.
